The Academy establishes centers to connect and enhance artistic practice and higher education. The activities of these centers align with the strategic development goals of the Academy and contribute to its visibility in the public sphere and collaboration with external stakeholders. Graduate students and alumni are involved in the centers' work to gain practical experience for the job market.
The activity of the Center includes promoting the Academy, designing, preparing, and executing simple commercial projects, creating professional and artistic works in the field of graphic design and production, printing small editions of simple graphic products, maintaining the digital printing machine, and other activities related to graphic design and production.
The Center for Innovative Media was established at the Academy of Applied Arts of the University of Rijeka in 2017 with the aim of connecting new media art, science, and technology, based on ethics, ecology, and sustainable systems.
CIM collaborates with other faculties of the University of Rijeka, where new areas of science are researched, as well as with other universities, institutes, and cultural institutions in creating interdisciplinary and new media projects.
CIM operates at the national and international levels, bringing together recognized domestic and international artists, scientists, and theorists to explore and present the latest achievements in contemporary art, science, and technology.
The center's goals include promoting art as an important mediator and driver of change in all segments of society, educating about the application of the latest technologies in art, and encouraging social debate on the possibilities of more functional, creative, diverse, and accessible learning. These goals will be achieved through the following activities: workshops, lectures, exhibitions, panel discussions, residency programs, and publishing proceedings, aimed at the general public.
CIM's program offers opportunities for innovative approaches in the field of applied arts, 3D printing, micro-scanning, virtual (VR) and augmented reality (AR), interactive video, computer graphics and animation, and various aspects of creative work, including the application of contemporary music and sound in media environments (film, video, and the Internet).
The Career Center of the Academy of Applied Arts provides professional support to students based on educational quality, artistic expertise, and understanding of individual student needs.
Supporting students contributes to the development of their personal potentials with the aim of achieving a successful career during and after their studies through information, monitoring, counseling, education, and preparation for the job market.
Student counseling is provided through organized lectures, presentations, workshops for targeted groups, and individual sessions according to personal needs.
Quark - Center for Ceramics was established in 2018 and operates within the University of Rijeka - Academy of Applied Arts, with the aim of further research and production in the field of ceramics, beyond the regular academic programs. New methods and applications of ceramics primarily focus on research in object design and interdisciplinary studies within international, inter-institutional, and university-based artistic-scientific projects, as well as projects in collaboration with the business sector.
Quark is a center of smaller capacity, designed to evolve and expand its activities, as well as to involve alumni, artists, students, designers, architects, scientists, and individuals interested in the development of commercial projects.
The application of new technologies to the ceramic medium provides a new dimension and meaning, and ceramics as a material has proven to be highly suitable for 3D printing, which not only produces prototypes but also finished products. In the case of a failed print, material recycling reaches around 98%. Therefore, traditional production methods combined with new technologies represent a relatively unexplored area and open up new and countless possibilities for further research, from artistic objects and object design to the production of elements applicable in architecture.
